The Economy

Section I: Problem Definition

A)     Description of Research Process:  Each one of the team members will discuss an important aspect of HOW DOES THE CURRENT US ECONOMY AFFECTS US?  The project has been divided among the 5 members of our team.  We are each doing research in our corresponding areas: education, housing, healthcare, immigration and unemployment. Each will prepare a written report, we will revise it, and do a presentation in class.

1) Pro Quest (4 article)

2) Newspaper articles (10 articles)

3) Online archives (4 articles)

4) Scholastic Journals (3article)

B)     Statement of Problem:

*          “The current US Economy is on a rapid decline”

1)     Present State Desired State (PSDS) –

*          The current US economy is on a rapid decline.

{There are no jobs, unemployment is on a rise.  People are not able to afford healthcare, housing or education.  We need better immigration reforms so that immigrants are able to work legally and contribute to the US.}

2)     Desired State –

*          The economy on the whole is on the rise.

{There are jobs created in the US for all citizens that are able to work.  Education is affordable, so is healthcare and housing.  There are better established immigration laws and immigrant employment is better regulated.}

3)     Dunker Diagram (DD) - Reasons why it would be okay NOT to fix today’s Economy:

1)     Having financial security, meaning millions of dollars

2)     People relocating to other countries.

3)     Death

4)     Lack of concern for the economy

4)     Priority Analysis Chart (PA) –

Priority Analysis (PA)

Urgency:         What is the urgency for the economy to stabilize?

10           There are thousands of unemployed US citizens, with minimal income that can’t afford

                healthcare.

10           There is a need of suitable housing for citizens that are working and can’t afford a home.

8              Create better opportunities for our younger generation.

Importance:                 How strongly will this problem affect me or others if left unsolved?

10           Number of people on welfare will increase, affecting millions of tax payers.

5             It’s upsetting that the US government doesn’t shelter it’s homeless.

10           US citizens who are not able to afford healthcare will be in mortal peril.

9             Without immigration reform laws, companies will continue to hire illegal immigrants and

pay them minimum wage, without benefits.

Section II: Causes

A)     Trouble Shooting Analysis (TSA)

Trouble Shooting Analysis (TSA)

IS Present

IS NOT Present

Difference

Reason

What?

Decline in today’s economy

Jobs, Healthcare, Immigration Reform Laws

No jobs for citizens to afford healthcare, housing, education, etc.

Money

Why ?y

There are no jobs, houses are really expensive, not enough healthcare reform

Abundance of jobs,  healthcare availability, housing

People need money

Government does not have enough money, companies are closing affecting employment of thousands of citizens

Who?

Middle class to lower class Americans

Citizens in the US Canada, Mexico, Europe, Upper Class

Money

Upper class does not have the need for better jobs, healthcare, etc.

Where?

Everywhere in the US

Other countries

Other countries have learned to live within their means

Our government can’t afford to loan companies money to stay open

When?

Now

When the Economy stabilizes

Money

When the government regulates loan companies and provides better healthcare

How much?

It affects millions of US citizens

Indifference

People care about our economy, and we need to make it better

We need to bring jobs  back to the US

Your questions?

How can we all help stabilize our economy?

Our Government (Congress) to Tax their wages and pay for their own health care

To show the American people that they(Congress) are willing to do their part

Money and benefits just like the common wealth

B)     Discussion of causes –

1)     Companies are moving overseas where overhead is cheaper.

2)     Companies are hiring illegal immigrants and paying them less, without providing benefits.

3)      America not being creative enough, (not producing enough engineers, mathematicians, chemical engineers in our own school systems).

4)     American has stopped making products, because it is cheaper to have them made in other counties.

5)     Unnecessary out sourcing of products.

6)     Free benefits to all illegal immigrants in our country.

7)      Stimulus package: taking millions of dollars away from hard working taxpayers.

8)     Dictatorship in Government policies

Section III: Possible Solutions

A)     Techniques used:

*          Researched –The Firm used Periodicals, internet, news papers, and          journals.

*          Brainstorming – We discussed all of our point of views to reflect on why the Current Us Economy is on a Rapid Decline, and what changes need to occur  to repair the situation at hand.

B)     Solutions Brainstormed:

*          Higher taxes for companies that hire overseas

*          Severe sanctions for companies hiring illegal immigrants

*          Raise import taxation on every American operated company that moves out of the country.

*          Illegal immigrant taxation on their wages earned in America

*          Holding insurance companies liable to their policy and forcing them to honor them no matter the cost. (Can’t cancel a person because it cost too much)

*          Cut back or stop all American aid unless deemed a natural disaster to other counties.

Change in our Goverment

  Thursday, August 13, 2009
                                                                                Plan Implementation

We have decided as a team that restructuring the economy would be the best choice as far as a solution to our current economic crisis. We decided this was the direction to go for a couple of reasons. The first reason is that, it is something that our government can do to implement a reform for an unstable economy. We know what most people would think, “How does this provide a resolve for our economy?” To be honest, it would only give minimal relief in the beginning, but it is something that we can do now. To make an effective change in the economy would take time, financial backing, and political support at the local, state, and federal levels of the governing body.

We put a lot of research and thought into this process and came up with these five areas we felt are most critical and in need have reform. The first area is health care; we believe that a better healthcare system with less government involvement is better. Second, we discussed housing in America. It was thought that lowering home prices to suit incomes would help stabilize the housing market. Third, we believe that the unemployment rate would greatly decrease if we employed our citizens of our country first, and put the clamps on businesses that outsource for cheap labor. Fourth, if we implemented stronger and stricter Immigration Laws and reforms we would be able to tend to our country more financially. Last, we need to have our education system brought up to current methods, to ensure that our generations to follow are competitive for future world societies.

Being there are multiple areas that need to be restructured, we could place emphasis on areas needing most attention. First there is healthcare which we spoke of first. We believe that every citizen deserves the right to decent and affordable healthcare without having to compromise financial stability and health wellness. Then, there is also unemployment which seems to be the main driver of economic dysfunction. We would also like to see mandates on companies and businesses that outsource for cheap labor. During this time we would hope that the our government would have the interest of economic reform for the American public at hand, rather than reform for the rest of the world, by this we mean listen to the general public, or better yet; the people that trust our government to make living in America better for everyone that is a citizen.

After the federal or state government has made decisions, we could review to have majority of the public agree upon the outcomes. This would help to ease the process of law making, if the government understand and know what the public needs are. If the bill isn’t suitable for the taxpayers then it shouldn’t be implemented. Also, if we can’t get a satisfactory decision at lower levels, then we take it through appropriate channels to get a hearing at the next higher level until all levels have been exhausted. If that doesn’t work then we do what we must to get a person removed from their seat, and try to find someone that has a genuine interest in of the American citizens. Things are not going to change on their own, so we would really depend on these people we have voted in to these positions to speed up our process. Being that this is a growing problem and affects everyone, we think that people would really consider the needs of the American public.

Contingency Discussion

Any and all solutions must be cost efficient, must be able to improve the economy without Government dictatorship and/or socialism. The biggest obstacle for this plan is starting at the root of the problem itself to make it work which would be starting at Congress itself. We (the people) of the United States need to send a message to them and make it fast, because as of right now they are not getting the message and this is the only way this plan could ever work. Our Government at present state has forgotten this, and the only other contingency plan would be to stop them from their selves.

We Group B have discussed this several times throughout the last (5) five weeks, and we all laugh about it, but it coming closer and closer to the truth. To get the plan to work we need to shut down the Government for reorganization and maybe even some reeducation because it seems a lot of law makers (Congress) have forgotten a lot about what they are really doing there and that is “All the people for the people by the people” (U.S Constitution). We the people put them into their position to listen to us not to do what one man may want. Without this the plan it will only fall on deaf ears.

I am sorry I could not get the flochart to work!
